Anyone tried osteopathy?

Anyone tried osteopathy? was created by goinggo
I'm tired of all the side effects of conventional medications, and they don't work anyway. I have a friend who suggests osteopathy to me as an alternative treatment method. Just wondering if someone tried it and what the outcome was.

Thank you!

I looked up osteopathy after I saw your question and I don't see how it would help something like ITP, it seems to be a lot about back pain. Have you seen some claims that osteopathy addresses ITP?

That tells what a DO does.

I saw one many years ago, well before ITP - to be honest with you I was sick and he didnt' treat me any differently than a regular MD would have.

I have seen two doctors in the past with DO after their names and they were not in the least bit helpful for anything other than sore throats and ear infections, etc. They were just regular GP's.

Where did your friend come up with that?

Other than the AMA recognizes Oseopath's and is not complementary to Chiropracters, what they do is very similar. In the end, having seen both, I perfer the Chiropracter. Mine also does acupunture and while I have had other health issues resolved by it, it hasn't done a thing for my ITP.

I came close to trying Osteopathy...sort of. The bassist in one of my more recent bands was also a 'DO'. He kept offering to treat me for free because he was interested in experimenting with ITP treatment with osteopathy.
He was a good bassist and fun to play music with in biker bars, but I stuck with a primo hematologist at The James for my ITP treatment.

I would have to agree that osteopathy is not likely to help. Our family doctor is an osteopath and the only difference between him and a regular MD (of which he is as well) is he had two years of nutrition on top of medical school. Nothing to write home about. But since you're tired of standard medicine, have you considered homeopathy? THAT I can actually say did heal ITP, and multiple other health issues at the same time. Might be something to look into. There's lots on the natural board about it.
