Danazol treatment - was created by Lady Elly
I am an adult diagonised with I.T.P. in May, 2010. I took a shingles vaccine in April, 2010, which caused the I.T.P. I was put on 65mg of Predisone, and dropped dosage over 4.5 months. It didn't work. I took 4 treatments of Retuxin which didn't help. I've had 11 treatments of IVIG'S. They help for a month to 6 weeks and drop below 10. This past week, I started on Danazol (Danocrine). I've had reservations about taking it. However, I am getting desperate since my platelets do not hold for very long. Has anyone taken Danazol and did it work to help the platelets hold?

Not a particularly popular drug here because it rarely seems to work and it causes unpleasant side effects particularly for women as it is a modified testosterone.

There are other drugs to try too.. azathioprine and mycophenolate are two immunosuppressants and then there are the new TPO drugs which tend to be used as a last resort. So don't give up just yet.

Danazol DID work for me after Prednisone did not. I have been in remission now for 7+ years (knock on wood). I'm male, so I didn't have the side effects many women experience. Good luck!
