Hi All:

Does anyone know if there are any antihistamines that are better use or to avoid when you have IDP?

Do you mean ITP?
If so, when my eczema was really bad my hema recommended antihistamines for me. He said that Claritan and Benadryl were fine. The Benadryl if taken at night would help me sleep (the eczema kept me awake). The Claritin, also is over the counter. It reaches its best help after 2 weeks of use. They both did help my eczema.

Sometimes it's trial and error. Some people do fine with certain meds and other people don't.

I've been reading lately about antihistamines and memory loss--for everyone, not just ITPers. Do others have opinions and/or experience with this?

These usually reliabale links don't say a lot--but acknowledge memory problems as a possible side-effect of antihistamines:

I suspect the problem is worse for older people (like me--I'm 70!). My doctor has advised me to take Loratadine instead of other OTC antihistamines--it's a non-drowsy one. I remember my mother's doctor telling her that she shouldn't take Tylenol PM more than twice a week--I assume because of the effects of the antihistamine in it.

I take children's zyrtec, it is a liquid and the children's dose seems to work for me, I have allergies that make my eyes itch, I also take benedryl at night when needed. Neither of those seem to have any effect on my ITP.
