Visit with Physician on Thursday went OK. I explained I was there under pressure from others. (10 months after emergency treatment with Octagam, counts 25 - 30)
After some discussion & to-ing & fro-ing, I walked out with a script for 2.5 mg prednisolone. . . Still haven't filled it yet, have very mixed feelings about it, but don't know what else to do. EVERYTHING has side effects & consequences, this whole thing is a b..... nuisance! :S
Feel like giving everyone else a pill & saying 'happy now? Leave me alone!'

Hi MJ,
always hard to know what to do and it is a real pain in the ###, maybe the 2.5 of prednisolone would help without too many side effects.

Medicating everyone else, now there is a thought!!

Good to hear all your crops are doing well.

What total dose are you supposed to take? 2.5 is very, very low.

Hi Sandi,
I know, 2.5 mg/day is low - I guess it is a compromise of sorts . . Just want to try to keep counts above 30.

Hi Sandy,

One of the common themes with ITP is that everyone's response to any and every medication can totally different. For some, prednisone is effective. Others have no response. And others have a negative response. A low dose might be perfect for your ITP.

All you can do is try it and watch your response.

At 2.5 mg, the side affects will probably be less.

AT 2.5, there shouldn't be any side effects I would think. That dose is lower than the amount of cortisol the body makes naturally. I hope it works for you!

Understand your feelings about Meds. I have been on a depression med for several years and recently stopped taking with approval from Dr, as a few of the side affects seem to be getting worse. So, will see in a few weeks if side affects improve. Meds may help one issue, but cause others so it definatly gives one mixed feelings. I do not think 2.5mg of Prednisone is going to cause you any trouble. I would fill it see if helps you.
Good Luck.

Isn't 25 - 30 pretty good though. It seems to me that the dr is trying to "fix" something that isn't broken. And after 10 months. I don't know and maybe its just me, but I don't see a cause for worry. :)

Hey ho,
Finally relented & have been on 2.5 mg Pred for 3 weeks.
In the meantime we have moved house & had family, including 3 young grandies stay for a week.
Count on Thursday was 28, was advised to up the dose to 5 mg. I feel 'crappy' - though I suspect it has more to do with our ridiculous schedule lately, plus the fact of readjusting physically & mentally to the move off farm.

Sounds like a sneaky doctor to me. Persuade you to do take a low dose and then higher it as you get used to the idea. I wouldn't treat at over 20 and would resist everyone else's nagging because they don't have a clue.

Obviously I don't tolerate Pred. well (who does??) & am now back down to 2.5mg for 10 days, then every 2nd day then OFF. Hopefully husband's head & my hair will stay on now :silly:
