Rituxin induced taste changes??

Rituxin induced taste changes?? was created by tdecker
It is one week after my 4th rituxin infusion. That was my last one scheduled. My platelets were holding before the last infusion at 118 and they lowered my prednisone from 40 mg to 20 mg (from a high of 70 mg). I see the Hematologist on Thursday. Why all of the sudden today, does everything I eat have a plastic like/chemical like taste? I thought it was just the processed pretzels I was eating at lunch, but it is in my mouth - the lettuce, tomatoes, feta, chicken, quinoa - odoul's nonalcoholic beer. Does anyone have any thoughts about this or experiences with something like this?

Prednisone cause loss of taste for me, big time. I used to eat hot salsa every night just so I could taste something. It eventually went away when I got off of it.

Interesting! I never heard that about pred. I wonder if that is part of the reason why we eat more, trying to get that taste sensation.

I had a taste reaction and it cleared after a few weeks. I thought it was just my mind, what I have of a mind! :)

Prednisone caused me to loose my taste. Once I was completely off it taste senses returned.
So my guess it is from the Prednisone. Once you have been off Prednisone your taste will return.

I got that reaction after eating pine nuts from China once. I looked it up and a lot of people had the reaction. Weird.

It's listed in various places as a possible side effect of rituxan.

I lost taste with the pred too. The only think I could enjoy was melon so I ate that every day and lost a stone in weight!

Neither the pred nor the Rituxan changed my taste buds, but the antibiotics I'm on definitely have! ;)
