Blood clot after IVIg

Have you ever heard of people with ITP developing blood clots after IVIg treatments? They work great for me in emergencies, but a day after the treatments stopped I was diagnosed with a DVT in my left arm (not the arm the IV was in). Two months later, I am still taking 10 mg/day of Coumadin AND Lovenox shots twice a day...and my platelets are diving once again. Low platelets and blood thinners sound pretty dangerous to me!

Although I've not heard specifically of an ITP patient getting a blood clot after IVIg, I understand that ITP patients have the same risk of getting blood clots as people who do not have ITP--which never seemed fair to me!

I'm wondering about your doctor prescribing both Coumadin and Lovenox. After my knee replacement, 9 years ago, my orthopedist prescribed Lovenox (3 shots a day) because, I understood, that Lovenox would be safer for me than Coumadin. Does anyone know if one is safer for ITP patients?

Actually, people with ITP are at greater risk of blood clots than people without ITP. There are several reasons. It can be hard to juggle low counts and blood thinners. There have been several people here who have to do it. I take aspirin, but my counts have been good.

I'm new to this site but not to ITP which was diagnosed in Nov '05. Undetectable counts, every drug tried and no change in counts, splenetomy and then the blood clots started with in 2 weeks post surgery. First one behind left knee, later in lungs, the both knees. Now I have DVT, PE and lmyphedema to add to my resume and yes I'm on Warfarin for life along with pills for high blood pressure. Last counts were 236 in '07.
