Has anyone had any success with Danazol? I have had a splenectomy which put me in remission for 8 years. Low doses of prednisone don't work anymore, and rituxan didn't work. Doc says my choices are higher doses of prednisone, N-plate,or promacta. I kind of want to try some natural stuff for a while. What do you think?

Hi! I was on Danazol after numerous tries of prednisone, IVIG, spleenectomy, Rituxan and nothing worked. Danazol has a lot of testosterone and the side effects were much like prednisone but my bones and joints hurt so much worse. I also had issues with my periods while I was taking the Danazol. They had me on that for about 6 months and my counts were around 75ish, but my quality of life with all of the pain and extra bleeding was horrible! From my experience I wouldn't recommend Danazol to my worst enemy, but everyone is different and it may work out better for you. :)

Greetings. I started Danazol about 7 months ago. My options are dwindling, I dont think I want Nplate and the prednizone, well that was a nightmare! So far the Danazol seems to be working for me,no side affects that I know of (knock on wood) I have my next round of blood tests coming up in about a week, I'll let ya know how it goes. Good luck!

Went for my bloodwork and got results. My count is at a 3yr high! Up to 152,woohooo! The Danazol which I reduced intake seems to be doing ok and getting rid of that faulty hip which was releasing metal particules into my system didnt hurt none either!

I went into remission using Danazol in 2003. The only side effect I had was a tendency to retain fluid. My doc said because it is a male hormone, it's not usually given for women, but men may respond to it better.

My doc is now suggesting Danazol, and I have been against it because I am a woman and wary of male horemones. I also have am an emotional person, and I am afraid of what Testosterone can do to nerves. He said it would only be a low dose, and would take about 3 mos to take effect.
