Finally had my breakdown! was created by mrsjmuirhead
Well last week my count was 24,000 and they didn't give me my Nplate. Over the weekend I started randomly bruising and new symptom for me ( well except in the beginning). My finger is bruised and swelled up blue from who knows what? I have petichie all over, and in 4 years have hardly gotten. I got my count done today and I am at 8,000. I am seeing my dr today in an hour and am strongly considering going back to IVIG which worked for me 6-8 weeks with no symptoms like the bruising and counts over 50,000. Only problem is I was getting aweful headaches about 2 days after the IVIG. I am so confused, and am having to get put on intermitant FMLA to accomadate my treatments. I don't know what to do!

Mrs. - there are a few things you can do to minimize the IVIG side effects. I don't have time to tell you right now, I have to leave, but I'll be back!

Please do let me know what I can do. I had to get IVIG in the hospital last week and suffered aweful migraines for days. I mat have to continue on IVIG if my shots don't start working.

Sorry! Drink plenty of water the day before and the day of the infusions. Make sure they pre-medicate with something. Some doctors use Solumedrol, Decadron or Prednisone, plus Benedryl.

I'll see if I can find a more complete response from someone who has been there.

Thank you! I have always been pre-medicated with 1000 mg of Tylenol, and 25 mg of Benadryl. My mom was telling me about the prednisone as well. I am actually tryint to find a new hematolgist, mine just seems like there is no support, or him trying to find other options for me. He rarely will give me any pain meds, which I only need one to two days after infusion. Maybe that is too much to ask for?
