Any Advice about Cyclosporin? was created by Amber
I am 5 weeks out from starting Rituxan and I am showing no response. Platelets are 4K and I am out of options for my ITP and may have to start cyclosporin. Just wondering if anyone has any advice/experience with this drug. Prednisone doesn't help anymore and I hate the side effects anyway. Thank!!

I had some success with cyclosporin at first, but it ended up the same as the pred, worked and then the more i started using it, i then needed to increase the dose to get the same results and the side effects are just as bad if not worse in my opinion then pred. I wouldn't say not to try it, it may help you, but it does have some nasty side effects as well.

Similar story here. I started on Cyclosporine as a way to get off Cellcept (which was a way to get off of Prednisone). It worked 'okay' for a couple of years, then it just stopped working entirely. At that time I switched to Promacta.
Both Cellcept and Cyclosporine did about the same to me. Counts ranging from 20k to sometimes 50k. Generally in the 20k-30k range. I would still have to do Dex pulses now and then when the count dropped below 10k.
Aside from it's own side-effects, Cyclosporine (and Cellcept) suppressed my immune system. I got sick often and missed a lot of work because of that.
Flash-forward; In almost a year and a half on Promacta, I have only missed one day of work do to illness. Nope, I have no desire to go back to Cyclosporine, even if it did work for me now (it does not).
The good thing about Cyclosprine is the generic version is really inexpensive...a $5 co-pay.
