I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with Promacta or N-PLate. As with other meds it's nice to hear about personal experiences.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and experience.

Bernadette

Hi
I was recently diagnosed with ITP and have found the posts related to Promacta informative and interesting. So far we have tried prednisone which worked for about a week. My counts went from 6 to 303 but dropped back to 6 in a week.Dexamethazone had the same effects with 202 to 6 and 202 to 14....

I've had NPlate. It brought my counts up....WAY up! I was on Rituxan at the same time, I didn't like the side effects of NPlate so when the Rituxan started working I quit the NPlate. Wouldn't go back either. I might even go so far to say that I'd loose my spleen before going back on NPlate! Maybe. Going to start Promacta, when it gets here!

A bit over a year ago, I switched to Promacta.
I started Promacta treatment with a 4k count and a 50mg/day dosage.
After a couple weeks the count rose only to 14k, dosage was upped to max 75mg/day.
It took a month to get working, but I've been in the 50k range for the past year now. With far fewer side-effects than other treatments I've been on over the years. 50k is fantastic for me. I've never even seen my count over 90...and that was years ago. Keeping counts around 50k is basically what Promacta literature says is the goal.
A few months ago we lowered the dosage to 50mg/day.....still in the 50k range at last check. I'll know more later today after testing.
Promacta may not work for everyone, but it works for me ..... for now anyway.
Even managed to lose some weight on it.
