I've mentioned it somewhere else on the board but just wanted to make a post specifically for it. I've weighed all my options and decided to go ahead with a splenectomy which is scheduled for tomorrow morning. I'm pretty optimistic about it and am very very thankful that I've come to this decision on my own as my hema has always been willing to try other things. Hopefully I'll get a remission out of this! I'm currently sitting on a platelet high since I got IVIG last week in preparation for surgery tomorrow. I'll try to post from the hospital if I can type while on all the good drugs!

Good luck, Barrelgal! Post when you can. I hope the surgery works for you and you get lots of platelets and go into a long remission.

The surgery went well and I'm back at home now. My platelets were at 309 the morning after the surgery but I'm unsure what they've been since then. I go in to see my regular hema next week so will get a count then. Recovery has been quicker than I expected and I'm already ready togo back to work even though I was cleared for leave through Jan 3. I'm suprised at how small the incisions are. I have 4 and 2 are probably 1/3 of an inch, one is maybe 3/4 of an inch, then the largest is about 1 1/4 inches. All very small and look like they are healing nicely.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I'm now almost 4 weeks post surgery and my count this morning was 300k! This could still be from IVIG, but if it is then IVIG has never lasted this long before! I'm cautiously optimistic :).
The best part is I have a ski trip in a month so I'll feel a lot more comfortable zooming down the slopes knowing my counts are high!
