I hear that Prednisone can cause depression. Does anyone here (or have you) taken an anti-depressant with prednisone? I take a mood stabilizer now (Lamotrigine which regulates dopamine). I was just curious if your anti-depressant actually helped you while you took prednisone.

Lorna:

I took Celexa while I was on Prednisone and it helped a lot. I had gotten to a point where I did nothing but cry for four days. My job was extremely stressful at the time, I was on high doses of Prednisone, and I just couldn't keep up. Between the blurred vision, constant shaking, inability to form a coherent thought and mind racing, I was a mess. I was making financial errors at work and getting into trouble over it. I finally hit a breaking point, started to cry and couldn't stop. I called my GP in a panic and he prescribed Celexa. It really did calm me down.

The problem was that it took 4 years to get off of it due to withdrawal. I finally realized though that there was no real hurry and just took my time.

What I've just told makes me sound like a raving lunatic. I just had way too much on my plate between work and family and was completely overwhelmed.
