Low platelets symptoms

Low platelets symptoms was created by judy.wu
Hi!

I was diagnosed with ITP about 3 years ago and suddenly realized that there's a pattern everytime my platelets start to drop down.

I pretty much feel tired and sleepy, which is the usual, but also, lighted head, with shortness of breath, anxiety and mild to severe headaches.

I was feeling like this for the past 2 weeks and I happen to had 30 000 platelets by the time I took the blood test.

Have anyone else experienced such symptoms or can you share others that I should pay attention to?

Thanks!! :P

petechia, brusing easily, nose bleeds, feeing fatigued, i do get headaches, but i have always been prone to headaches even when my platelets are higher, so i don't use that symptom as a clue for low platelets. I only get shortness of breath when i am having an asthma attack.

I found that I was really tired. I would get 6-7 hours of sleep of night (which is normal for me) and then wake up completely exhasuted. Also, I had a really bad headache which I felt in my eyes the most for a couple of days. I had petechia on my feet and hands as well.

Thank you all for your response! Now I can pay more attention to those symptoms! I used to thought it was just stress and too much work!

If you are stressed due to work then it may increase the tiredness factor and perhaps you could think about some kind of action planning to help you with the stress? Only you will be able to answer how you are handling work situations :-}

Particulary if you are feeling tired with ITP too as will help you balance the day somewhat. I hope your boss knows about the ITP so knows how to help you with workload etc?

I have Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpula and the symptoms have been similar to what is reported here though haven't had any headaches. I tend to ache in my right breast (?) which goes once the platelets have risen. The other symptom I sometimes get is a swollen throat though when Doc's look down they cannot see anything - but must be reasonably common as one nurse on the haemo ward did say once, Bet I've had that for 6 weeks and he was right. But I get the swollen throat without the ITP drop sometimes so not guatanteed. I ring up when I see the rash because then I know for fact - so it seems, it is around 5!

For me, it's swollen ankles and bruises on my chest. When my ankles get thick, I know my counts are dropping. Like clockwork.
