  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

Acupuncture cause bleeding? was created by karenr
I can only find one reference in the forum to a person who has tried acupuncture (not necessarily to treat ITP) and who had bleeding and bruising. Her platelet level at the time was, as I recall, about 18K.

I'm considering acupuncture to treat back pain. Those of you who have tried acupuncture for any reason, have you had bleeding and/or bruising? If so, how many platelets did you have at that time?

What might be a "safe" number of platelets to try acupuncture?

I've done accupuncture when my counts were as low as 30K with no bleeding or bruising. The needles are really fine. I've been doing it for years and only had bleeding a couple of times (usually when they do a needle in one of the toes) and then only a small bubble that wipes up with a tissue.
