Not going to indicate what I'm on yet so as not to influence responses. Seems real, but wonder if I'm imaging this?? Seem to have developed an unusual taste bud(s) that's not entirely pleasant, even without eating. :S

I basically lost my taste buds on Prednisone. I occasionally got a funny "smell" or taste or something when I was on Nplate and Rituxan.

I do remember having dull taste buds when I took the Prednisone. Like - the taste of foods seemed to be muted. Not to mention that stuff tastes nasty in and of itself!

But it didn't stop me from eating, that's for sure!

Haven't noticed any changes in taste buds with the Rituxan - and I still seem to be eating like I was on the Pred. What's up with that!?

Didn't notice any difference from the Dex either.

Those are the only treatments I've had to be able to compare.

Prednisone. Like the others, I couldn't taste anything. I would eat hot salsa w/ chips every evening just to be able to taste.

A lot of medications produce changes in taste sensitivity, and funny residual tastes in the mouth. A very common case is a metallic/bitter taste.

I don't notice any difference in anything I eat. I am on 5mgs pred every day.

I don't notice it on the low doses either, Cindy, but I sure did on higher doses.

It's funny what you said about hot salsa. I love spicy foods, and I do remember that I could eat spicier things when I was on prednisone. But I didn't associate it with less ability to taste!

I like wine, but, on decadron, it all tasted spoiled. I poured out most of two bottles before realizing it was the medication. Biaxid (antibiotic) gave me a bitter taste constantly, and even water was awful. (Tasted like bug spray smells.) With both of those meds, I regained my normal sense of taste after being off them for a couple days.

Yep I had the muted taste on decadron pulse too. The food taste was muted for almost a week after the pulse ended

Thanks all for participating in my non-scientific survey. Never know now if I'm imagining/exaggerating something.

I'm on 75mg pred with 5mg weekly taper(started 100mg). Received my 1st Rituxan infusion 10 days ago and my 2nd yesterday. I started noticing the "taste" just several days ago (post #1 Rituxan).

I'd describe it as metallic although I've never eaten metal, but that seems to somehow describe it. I have it all the time, even when not eating and it's annoying because nothing removes it. Assume it Rituxan and thus I'll have it for another 2-4 weeks.

BTW my IVIg pushed me from 17 to 181 but within 6 days back down to 23 - didn't last long :(

Another count Thur - It's limbo time kiddos, how low can I go? ;)

I've had the metallic taste from some antibiotics, but not Rituxan. Strange.

Tart fruity drinks (orange juice, limeade, lemonade) helped briefly relieve the nasty taste when I was on biaxid. Nothing really worked much, however, until I was off the medicine.
