Hi All Senior Members,

My wife and me are trying to concieve for a long time. My wife had one episode of ITP in August 2008. But since then her platelets are always at the level of around Average 230K(Between 210K to 260K).

She was also tested positive for Aniplatelet Igm Antibodies ( Not IGG) recently. Also she has anti overain antibodies.

She is currently taking Dexamethasone and IVIG to keep her NK Assay at lower levels(which are known to harm embryo implantation).

Her doctors also recommended to take Baby Aspirin 81mg and Arixta (2.5 mg) on a daily basis for the upcoming month in which we will try to get pregnant. I am scared to death as these are blood thinners and can cause low platelets. I am really scared but my wife is adamant and does not listen to me. She also contacted her Hematologist who is also supporting her and he is also okay with she doing the same.

Can someone please guide me here whether it is safe to go ahead with these things.

Thanks All in advance.

Thanks,

Gautam

One of the biggest problems I have with ITP is the fear and anxiety of certainty. ITP is such a mysterious and frightening condition in a world that believes it knows everything. I believe the major task is for you and your wife to have a very open talk about all aspects (fears, concerns, support)of ITP, and of course your MD. You really need to utilize the MD for ALL concerns and questions and use this group of amazing people to help you on this journey. The experience and knowledge you'll find here is stunning. We will share our insights and experiences but you have to decide how much of our help is relevant while dropping some, but at least you'll have more knowledge from which to base your decisions.

Blessings of enough...
Faith to trust our Lord
Joy to share with others
Strength to help the weak
Love to share with the hurting

Ha, thanks. I'm not a guru, just someone who has been around for a long time and does tons of research.

You may have told me already, but what clotting problem does your wife have? If it's APS, she most likely needs the blood thinners. APS can cause miscarriages and the blood thinners are key to manage the pregnancy. If her platelets are good, I wouldn't be concerned about ITP at all right now.
