Head cold - which OTC meds are ok? was created by alaventure
Hi All -

I think I'm coming down with my first head cold since being diagnosed with ITP. My hema told me months ago that there are certain over the counter medications that he would prefer me to stay away from because they might have a trace of aspirin/blood thinners in them. I can't, however, remember if any of them are cold medications. My count right now is fine (244k two weeks ago)...I'm just worried about messing that up! :)

If anyone could offer any suggestions, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

Amy

Anything with ibopruofen or aspirin. So avoid things like nurofen, anadin although those are just generic painkillers etc.

Beechams, Day Nurse and Lemsip are all paracetamol based so those are fine. (those are available in the UK - i don't know where you're from).

It's easier if you just check the label and steer clear of ibopruofen or aspirin. if in doubt, ask the pharmacist.
