So, I am recovering from strep throat. I feel much better! I can even swallow food! Yay! BUT....ALAS...I wake up this morning and notice the slowly developing red bumps on the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet! They are a little uncomfortable, red, and slightly raised. My mom thinks I have hand-foot-mouth (EWWW!) I looked it up on the computer and I fit most of the symptoms. It's a virus...it has to run it's course. What should I do now?!?!?! Cut my vacay short and go get a count. I really don't want to drive 4 hours just to get a count! :0( My platelets were at 258 less than a month ago and she released me for 6 months!!!! Should I go see a dr. here and get a clear diagnosis? Either way there is NOTHING that can be done about it. Why!!!! Ugh! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Try not to panic and wait and see if you get any ITP symptoms. You might be fine - a virus might reactivate your ITP or it might not. If you are ill, driving hours to get a count doesn't sound like a great idea. Not to mention that HF&M is VERY contagious, so you don't want to be sitting in waiting rooms spreading it around. Hope you are feeling better soon and that your platelets remain high.

In a small percentage of Strep infections, they are also accompanied by a "strep" rash, I've had them twice on the neck and throat but a quick google search show thems on the extremities.

Scarlet fever is simply strep throat with a rash. Symptoms include sore throat, fever, headache, abdominal pain, and swollen neck glands. After 1-2 days, a red rash with a sandpaper texture appears, after 7-14 days, the rash sloughs off. Scarlet fever is very contagious, but good hand washing can reduce its spread.

Can you get a CBC locally if you need to? I drop when I take Amoxicyllin but will typically bounce back after I run the course.

Natalie - try not to worry about your platelets right now. They may not drop. Sounds like you have worse things on your plate. It wouldn't hurt to see a doctor where you are.

Oh yeesh - Natalie, ignore my post on the other topic - I didn't see this one.

I would try to get a count locally, if I were you - but I'm super paranoid and wouldn't be able to function if that was going on with me.

Ok... so here is the update. Slowly throughout the day, the rash spread from not just my feet and hands, but it is now on my chest, back, upper and lower legs, backs of my arms, and stomach. So, my mom thinks it is either a reaction to the Augmentin or a "strep rash." I'm not too freaked out about it seeing as how it doesn't hurt or itch. I am going to call my hemo tomorrow just to give her the heads up. After I return to Charleston, I will probably just go get a count for my own well being. Has anyone ever heard of or had an Augmentin rash or strep rash? If so, please let me know about it! As you all know, I FREAK about everything :0)

My daughter had Scarlatina (strep rash) a few times. It looked like purple splotches and her skin would peel.

Thanks for your posts! You have all made me feel better. I feel so icky. First strep and now I'm covered in a rash. My mom affectionately has been calling me "typhoid mary." Ahhh....feel the love. But alas, I'm alive and breathing and that is enough for me. I'll keep you all updated. Thanks for your posts :0)
