I found that m a ITP patient in April 2008 and in Aug 2008 I underwent splenectomy only after both Prednisone and IVIG failed. When I checked my platelet counts in May 2010 it was 120k..which is very satisfactory I believe. However, last week I was suffering from fever for 5 days because of which my family doc advised me a CBC check which showed platelets as only 17k. Now I am not sure if this drop is because of ITP or it is because I was suffering from fever.
I am scared to visit my Haematologist again with the fever of Prednisone.

Can anyone please help me with this as I am really very confused with this at this moment?

Maybe your count will go back up after you are over whatever bug it is you have - I hope it will!

don't warry, my son has the same situation last week , he is 17 years old , had spleen removed two month ago, his count dropped last week, it was 35k i was about to day, but his count back up again to normal count with no treatment ,DR said he might be had viral infection, while he didn't have any fever,so wait until to do the next cbc and i'm sure it will be up again with no treatment , i wish the best for you and every one suffer from this crazy itp

Thanks to both of you for replying :)

Any idea after how many days should i get my next CBC done ?
Also just want to check if anyone gets a blue-green mark (bruises) around the vein from which the blood is taken for CBC?

I think this is a great place wherein we can talk and discuss about our problems. As ITP is something of which most of the people are not aware of and so many of us face a hard time in taking decisions.

yes my son alwase have blue green mark around his vein when he had blood drawn , you should do cbc as soon as you can , why we put yourselefe in warries,

Happens to me with every draw if < 50 but I think everyone reacts different so a CBC just to establish baseline is worthwhile IMO.

I had my CBC done today and the platelet count is 650k.
10days back it was 17k and now 650k...without any treatment at all.
Is there anything to worry about as 650k is more than the normal range ?

Not usually unless you have clotting risks. Normally, they don't worry unless counts are over 1 million.

congratulation,this the same what happened to my son, any way this is a good sign, dr said no warry from the heigh count ,the body will settl up again,enjoy the heigh count
