possible/ test positive 4 lupus and not have it?/

:unsure: My daughter was just diagnosed a month ago with itp although her doc said she tested positive for lupus but might not have it. they are going to do more test. is it possible that can happen? if anyone has heard of this please let me know.

It depends what they tested. If it was the ANA test then yes, it can be positive and mean nothing. Do you know exactly what the test was and the result?

As Ann said, you can be positive for ANA and other antibodies like Anti-Rho (SSA), as I've learned, and it just be the ITP. There's a chance lupus would should up later but you can also just have ITP with these indicators.

In order to be diagnosed with Lupus, you have to meet certain criteria. There is no test for Lupus. It amazes me how many doctors do not know that.

A person can have several of the criteria and no diagnosis because they don't have enough symptoms/labs to support a diagnosis. They can go on to develop more years later, or never have any problems. ITP is one of the criteria.
