Anyone get a rash on their arms and chest? Round pinkish sores? I notice this a lot more in the summer when I'm out in the sun.

They almost look like large pimples but have no head to them at all and they are somewhat flat. They aren't boils, that I know. They will come and go if I leave them alone but theyre a bit itchy...

Hey there!

I have had a rash on my chest for a while now. My rash isn't unpleasant, as in itchy, oozy, or anything like that. It almost just looks like a red stain on my skin! It is unattractive, but it doesn't itch or hurt at all. Like yours, mine gets worse in the summertime. I think that it is due to sweating and perspiration. It is right below my bra line, so I equate it with sweat from wearing a bra! too much information, I know! I have googled it and I really think it is from heat. I am sensitive to heat anyways, so I think that is what it is....some sort of heat rash!

I just went to your profile to see if you were male or female...I didn't want to go too in depth about the boob sweat if you were some poor unassuming male who didn't know any better! hahahaha! I noticed that we are the same age! Cool!

Hi,
I get them too! I have asked my rhemy about them and he just says they aren't a big deal, but they are on my chest, shoulders and tops of my arms, and the dr said if they itch too much take benadryl. (they do itch, and sometimes they scar if I scratch too much) So I can't really tell you much, they drive me crazy not so much because of anything but that they look bad, and I have enough of that going on, LOL. Mine do get worse in the sun and in the summer in general, if you find out anything more about it, please let me know. I'd love to get it to go away, lately I feel like the rash queen.

Are you on any meds...... particularly Prednisone or other steroids? I've been on 20mg Pred for several months and now my Hemo Doc sez I have adolescent acne on my back. I'm 68! This is a side effect from the Pred. Lemme know.......Hairball

I'm on Plaquinil now, but this actually started while I was on the Pred (100 mg/day) last year. It's never really gotten any better. I did Rituxan last year, also, but this started before that. My skin was never like this before so I feel like it has to have something to do with something. The drs have also told me that I have a connective tissue disorder and that this could be causing the variety of skin rashes that I have had trouble with, but they don't really give me much info and leave me feeling very un-informed and slightly crazy.

You should ask to be seen by a dermatologist about the skin disorder. If it is connected to lupus or some other connective tissue disorder then it can be treated.

So....do you think I should show it to my hematologist even though it doesn't hurt or anything? Now you have me paranoid! ahhh!

No, you should probably see a dermatologist or rheumatologist. Your hematologist probably won't have any great suggestions. Many people with Lupus or suspected Lupus (MCTD) have odd skin rashes.

I saw a derm awhile back and he said it was a yeast infection but he was such a creep. He was supposed to do a full body exam for moles and was kind of a jerk when he found out I'd had some moles removed. Only one came back slightly abnormal. He literally scoffed and said I shouldnt have bothered having them removed.

But you know..the other doctor wanted to play it safe. I have extremely fair skin and we have skin cancer in the family and they sure did look weird...

Anyways, about the rash I don't think it's a yeast infection but I don't it has to do with lupus. I think that's been ruled out...

Natalie does it look similar to the 2nd photo here? You can click on the photo to enlarge it.

Melinda,
I looked at the pics, but that is nothing like mine, mine is actually more like acne, or at least it resembles it, but it never comes to a head, raised bumps sometimes red, sort of like a bug bite, take forever to go away, and if you scratch to hard (sometimes they itch and sometimes not) or pick at them they will scar like crazy. I have several scars so now I do my best to leave them alone! It was one of the reasons my hematologist (that and joint pain) referred me to my rheumatologist. The rheumatologist doesn't seem concerned at all about it, of course he does seem real concerned about much. He also isn't a great sharer of information. He is one of those that has a way of making you feel as if your only problem is that your crazy.

Melinda,

Mine look very similar to that. It isn't that severe, and the patches are a more reddish tint. They aren't raised or scaly at all. It probably is some sort of yeast!

Andra have you seen a dermatologist [I'm too lazy to go to the 1st page to see]? I know a few people who see rheumatologists and they seem a little flakey [the rheumatologists not my friends]. Those bumps of yours do not sound like fun - hope you can get them figured out and taken care of!

Write down that name, Tinea versicolor, and ask your doctor about it. This is something everyone has on their skin, for some it acts up and for other is doesn't.

Lupus can never be ruled out. People can go years with a few of the criteria/symptoms but not have enough for a diagnosis. Symptoms and blood work can change at any time. There are 4/11 criteria that must be met; ITP is one of them.

I get what is similar to a rash but was told they are cellulitis. I usually get them in patch where my clothes rub, like in my armpit where my bra sits or along my pant lines. They are painful but come and go. I was told its from all the immunosuppesants im on.
