Triggered By Pregnancy- ten years ago! was created by Sorenna1
Hi-

I have heard of platlets counts going down at pregnancy to return after birth. But mine stayed mildly low. Recently, they have begun to drop a bit further into moderate.

Has anyone else heard of platlets staying low as a result of pregnancy?

Thank you,

Samantha,

Yes, it's happened. ITP does not always resolve after giving birth.

My ITP was discovered during my first pregnancy with twins in July of 2005. I've had ITP ever since. My second pregnancy I was closely monitored and strangely enough my counts hovered a bit higher than my norm (around 90K) throughout the pregnancy. Once I delivered in 2006 they dropped back down to my normal, but safe low of 60-75K.

I thought perhaps my ITP might resolve itself a couple of years after my last pregnancy. My last count was 176K which I've never had so maybe 4 years later my body is going to recover from this (wouldn't that be nice?). I won't know until my next check, but I definitely think that pregnancy can trigger ITP. At least it did for me....
