My Platelets are starting to Fall was created by AmeliaP

Hi everyone just to let you know the snowbird is home in Connectiuct from my Winter home in Florida.
I went for my CBC follow up test today. My Platelets have dropped to 153,000. My Hematologist stopped the 5 MG of Prednisone that I was taking. Now I have to go everyone week for a CBC when they drop to 20,000. He is going to administer a new shot that they just got in Danbury, CT. It is called Rituxin. I saw many people on this site have used it.

I would appreciate any information anyone can tell me about it.

I am also going back to my summer job starting on May 3rd.

Hi.
I am not too clear on your post. 153k is a great count. Rituxan is an IV infusion given once a week for four weeks in a row not an injection. A fairly new treatment is called NPlate. This is an injection.

153 is a great count! It's always good to have a back-up plan, but whoa Nelly hold the horse. Weekly CBC's seem like overkill and, what treatments have you tried?

Rituxan isn't new and it isn't an injection. Are you sure that's what he said?

Wow, 153 is still almost a normal count, so i wouldn't worry to much.

Iknow the count is good right now. But it won't last as I am not taking any medication for my platelets.

Hi Sandi,

It may be new to us In Connecticut. My Hematologist said it was a Shot. He said if my Platelets went down to 20,000. He will give me this Rituxan. It is new to me that is why I am asking question. The only thing I have ever been put on was the Prednisone.

Hi rere,

I know right now it is a great count, but my Platelets don't stay up. My Hematologist mentioned Rituxan and NPlate. He said they are new drugs in Danbury, CT and he will be the first to use them. I just want the input of what I will be looking forward to.

The only treatment that I have had was back in 2008(Oct when this started was an IV Hemmaglobulin transfusion) and then different dosages of Prednisone. My visit on Friday was when my Hematologist said we are stopping the Prednisone and wants me to come weekly to check the blood count. My Platelets drop very fast.
