a little worried was created by Nisse
This is the first time I have a cold since being diagnosed with ITP. Just wondering what it will do to my counts?? I have been doing pretty good the last couple of weeks. I had my last Rituxin April 9th and my count last week was 206!! Yay!! But I am a little concrned about this week. Should I expect them to be down? UGH...I feel like I overreact or over think every little thing now. I have a cold. Nothing bad, a stuffy nose and a little cough, and I am worried about my counts...am I nuts?! I keep checking for bruses thinking this cold will tank my numbers. Do other people feel this way?? Sorry for rambling, just having a tough day.

It's not unusual for a non-ITP person to have changes of as much as 30K in a single day, of course that's not significant if you're between 150-450K. For anyone under 50K, it's more worrisome. The point is to expect some fluctuation, it's normal.

It's hard to say, I frequently go up with viruses, but also have had drops. I always drop if I do antibiotics, so I try to make sure I do everything I can to prevent a cold from going to an infection.

There is a very similar thread about colds currently active in the Parent's section.

Nisse:

Worrying and fretting won't change a thing, so try not to dwell on it. I was one who didn't have drops from being ill and if I did, I never knew about it. I got counts when I saw symptoms and if I didn't see any, I assumed I was fine.

Rituxan is pretty strong, it should hold your counts.

My counts always go down when i am unwell, but like Sandi has said dwelling on it is not gonna change anything, everyone is different and you may find yours don't go down.

That's so funny that you have a cold. I got a terrible cold right after my Rituxan treatments, too. Your immune system is just down right now. Give it time! That "terrible" cold didn't change my platelets too much considering I'm still in a remission over a year later ;) So..I wouldn't worry about it! Enjoy it!

If your counts are that high, then you are having a 'full response' to Rituxan which is great, and predicts that your remission will last longer than those who have a 'partial response'. So you'll probably be in good shape for years!

Thanks for the responses. As it turns out my count didn't tank, it was 206 last week and 210 this week. I feel silly for worring about this, but since being diagnosed everyhting makes me paraniod. In the past, if I had a could I wouldn't think twice about it. Couple of days and I will be better. Now, with ITP, I am scared. I think should I go to the doctor, what it this is somthing else. I am exteremly happy that the Rituxin worked for me  ! I just need to learn to stop over reacting to the little things. Which will take some time. Thanks for all the response. Once again everyone's words have helped me calm down!
