First normal count in 27 years!!!! was created by sageworks
Who would think my platelets would go up after 27 years???? And like most folks, who would know what my "normal range" was to begin with? Except for a few dips, mostly my count has been 60-85K for 27 years. I went down to 10K after taking a blood pressure medication, and that took 2 agonizing years to recover from. But who would think at 63, my platelets would go up? 127K!!!!!
The only things i have done is stop considering myself to have a condition, and lately, in the last month - and I'm pretty sure my platelets wouldn't go up 37K in one month - is I have mostly gone off wheat. But my understanding is you have to go off wheat totally for at least 3 months for it to impact your system. And when it took 2 years to go from 10K to 60K, I don't think that eating less wheat could have done it either. So, it is just a wonderful thing.
That said, it is just numbers, and I have long since decided they have no impact on my health unless they are really low.
But 27 years!!!!! I had long since given up expecting them to ever go over 90K.

Congratulations! It is a shock after so many years ...but a good shock. Whatever caused the platelets to rise after 27 years can be subject to speculation. But the final answer is who knows!! Enjoy the high count. Where you every treated for your low platelets?

other than prednisone when initially diagnosed, no. tons of Vit c and grape seed extract, this and that, but by and large, i have avoided the medical community with rigor. the only time i went - was for concerns over my heart - and as noted, the damn doctor didn't pay attention when i told him i was bruising too much. stupid me, i listened to him telling me to stay on that damn medication. i really paid - with ultra high blood pressure and very low platelets.
so, really, nada.
and i am quite happy for this to have occurred, and so are my adult kids.

Congratulations, this has given me hope - although I don't know what it will be like with more platelets. It's been 30 yrs and still hoping. C :)
