It has been a while. I have been in remission since 2020 after having an emergency spleenectomy. It worked but has not been without issues. With a lowered immune system I have been sick with colds more than ever. But not worrying as much about lows.
In the time since my surgery, we have weathered COVID, adopted 4 children, and I have been learning to be a mom to "trauma children" while trying to work full time and manage my own stress levels. To say it was a smooth journey would be a lie. I am now experiencing exhaustion and joint pain and it reminds me of being super low. When I have labs done everything is fine. My Dr raised my vitamin D and B12 intake but honestly it isnt helping. It is frustrating to me to be in "remission" but to still feel the symptoms of ITP.
Is this normal? I am just looking for suggestions. It makes me want to reach for ibuprofen but that terrifies me as I know it isnt the best for me.
Thanks for your insight!
Mandy

Other than an undiagnosed cyclic thrombocytopenia, where you are missing the lows, it would seem that you should not have symptoms of ITP, if your body is having constantly good platelets. Your body doesn't seem to be fighting platelets, so hard to blame ITP, except for you lacking a spleen, unless it is possible to still have these symptoms...

Have you possibly had a tick bite? Sorry to grasp.

Mandy, I have been in remission since 2011 after doing Rituxan.  My splenectomy didn't work.
I haven't been any sicker than normal, but am tired a lot.  I get my blood done every 3 months or so and they are always good, even if I feel otherwise.
I am in my late 60's, so I attribute some of my tiredness to that.
I have recently been put on B12.  I don't see a big difference from before when I didn't need to take them.
It sounds like you have a lot on your plate which could contribute to some of your tiredness.
Maybe someone else will answer here too.

I actually thought maybe Lymes and had a test done but it came back negative. Thanks for that thought though...I am really open to anything at this point.
My Dr said that my body will be fighting "everything" harder without a spleen so I don't know if that just causes some of the exhaustion or what.
Thanks!

Thank you for your input! Maybe the tiredness is more from my lack of spleen than platelets. I do have a ton on my plate but also crave and grieve my life before ITP daily because this load is nothing compared to what I used to do.
I dont see much difference with the vitamin D or the B12. Except when I was given a super high dose of Vitamin D and experienced Vitamin D toxicity...that was fun!
Thanks,
Mandy

While it does make sense that your body having to fight can exhaust you, a couple things about lyme;

You are at higher risk of lyme problems without a spleen. Lyme tests are only 50 to 80% accurate.
