Has anybody had any issues using Celebrex while on ITP? I recently had to have a labrum repaired and my orthopedist wanted me to try Celebrex as opposed to using NASIDs - gotta get off of the opioids at some point. Thanks.

Yes I know. You're right. I'm referring to other OTC NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen or Aspirin.

Suggest you discuss it with your haematologist

I'm with mrsb - talk to your hematologist about this.
I had to take baby aspirin for a few weeks after each total knee replacement and he was ok with that as of course we didn't want a blood clot. It actually increased my count for a while.

Celebrex (celecoxib) is an NSAID, but it is a COX-2 inhibitor, not a COX-1 inhibitor. COX-1 is an important part of platelet function, and most NSAIDs have COX-1 inhibiting effects, which is why they should be avoided, especially at counts below 50K.
Celebrex has been shown NOT to interfere with platelet aggregation even at a dosage of 1200 mg/day, while the normal arthritis dosage is much lower, at 200 mg/day.
