I got my daith peirced over 3 years ago and it has not healed. I also got 5 ear peircings (conch and helix) about a year ago and they haven't healed either. When I had my spleen removed I was told getting tattoos and peircings may be a challenge (I'm heard-headed :/). I have been in remission for almost 4 years and my count is at 398K. I've gotten 4 tattoos in the last 3 years and they have healed wonderfully. I'm pretty convinced the ITP and/or splenectomy is causing my peircings to not heal. Like my body doesn't get that I want them so it's constantly attacking the areas. Anyone else have this issue or heard of it?

Sounds like an infection. It's common anyway but having no spleen won't help. The GP could give you antibiotic ointment.

  • ITP since 2014. Retired nurse. My belief is empower patients to be involved as much as possible in their care. Read, read, read & ALWAYS question medics about the evidence base they use.

Not an infection. Seen 3 docs. They all say no infection. They advise I remove them but I don't want to!

Personally if I had a piercing that had not healed I wouldn't get another 5 piercings until that one healed!!
Haven't heard anyone here that had a piercing not heal & say ITP caused it.

I don't think you want to hear this but people I've known who have had piercings that won't heal have had to get rid of
them in order for the wound [and it is a wound] to heal. Your body, you have to do what you feel is best for you. Good luck!
