Flu vaccine- quadrivalent was created by kyasseen
I had the quadrivalent flu vaccine yesterday ( UK), within 4 hours got a small blood blister in the mouth ( right cheek).

It has gone this morning. Gave me a scare.

Feel slightly foolish that i took guidance online that said it was ok, and also the pharmacist didn't think it was a problem.

I did a more extensive search online after getting the blister and it would appear that reduced platelets is a known side effect of the flu vaccine.

I've been in remission for the last 7 years and hope this was just a temporary blip.

I've been in remission for the last 9 years and have gotten the flu shot every year with no issues. Everyone responds differently. Hope it's just a blip for you.

I've had quadrivalent (inactive) vaccine for the last 5 years it has never affected my count. I would rather have a drop from the vaccine than have 'flu which would a) make me feel dreadful and b) probably crash my count to single figures.

kyasseen you don't know if your count went down for that short period time unless you got a platelet count when you noticed the blood blister. (just my opinion)

I've had ITP since 1989 and have received a flu shot (inactive) every year starting in 1992 (28 years) and have never had a problem! In fact I just got my flu shot this morning, and due to my age I'm given a high-dose shot and that has never bothered my count either.

Like mrsb, I would much rather deal with a drop in count than catch the flu, especially now!
