Tests for H. pylori infection was created by adamt
I've asked my hematologist about obtaining an h.pylori test but they were dismissive and didn't seem to think it was needed. Both my bouts of ITP came after having a stomach virus. After speaking to my GP they agreed to test for H.Pylori using a blood test. The result came back as negative. I am now reading that the blood test isn't the best way to test for h.pylori and the best test would be a Urea Breath Test 13C.

Does anyone know if this is worth doing? This link, for example, says that "Only UBT is sufficiently accurate to confirm current infection or eradication." bjgp.org/content/67/665/576

The blood test detects either a current or previous infection with h pylori as it looks for the antibodies. So if it's negative the theory is that you have never had it so are clear.

adamt, could the stomach virus bouts have been a Flu viruses?
Note that no steroid response and no IVIG response, along with Flu virus trigger, would be row 2 in my ITP treatments table.
