Well they said it could happen! was created by Olas2007
I was warned that I might bruise more easily with ITP.
Well no shit...... platelets were 17 when last tested, and next appointment not for 8 weeks.
Well today I took a shower, and, for once had a look at myself......... jeez, bruises on my legs and arms, on my side.
Odd dark red little clusters of dots on my arms, legs and chest.
You're all more experienced than me in this,... does this sound like levels have dropped again??
Do I need to do anything, or can it wait until next appointment????
Any advice welcome.
Thank you!!

If you get what they call wet purpura, which is nose bleeds or blood blisters in the mouth, then that needs treating. Otherwise it depends how comfortable you feel about just watching.

would get your counts checked now, avoid less than 10K which for most of us means increased risk of brain bleed so would seek prompt treatment then for sure, and most treat below 30K
For me, petechiaie etc at less than 5000 but it is different for each person.
What treatment are you on?

Olas why not take the advice of Nieca Goldberg, MD:
"Instead of wasting your time worrying about symptoms, just get it checked out" -Nieca Goldberg, MD

If you are concerned get a count done - why wait & worry for 2 months?
Good luck!

  • ITP since 2014. Retired nurse. My belief is empower patients to be involved as much as possible in their care. Read, read, read & ALWAYS question medics about the evidence base they use.

"....platelets were 17 when last tested, and next appointment not for 8 weeks"
my count was 17 i was told to jump on prednisone and do weekly tests.
that makes no sense to me.
classic example of someone who knows what to do but wants someone to give him a good reason not too.
i get it... who the hell wants to deal with 10K or 5K... " if i have to i'm going to delay it as long as i can."

  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

I agree with Mel and Mrs. B. If my platelets were that low, I wouldn't wait more than 2 weeks for another check.
