Itp and osteoporosis was created by Margaret k
After falling and breaking my humerus I had a bone scan and have been told I have osteoporosis. At 71 probably most women of my age do.
I have been prescribed calcium, vit D and alandronic acid. I haven't taken any of it yet and have an appointment with my GP soon to discuss the pros and cons of this medication. Does anyone have any advice to offer?

I've been on all 3 of those for the last 4 years Margaret. They have had absolutely no effect on my platelet count and have improved my bone density.This is is a very useful site nos.org.uk

My mother has osteoporosis. She ended up taking 'Forteo' for awhile. I think it stopped the progress. IMHO, it was taking the little purple pill, aka Prilosec, for a few decades is what caused the bone loss.

Thank you , I was concerned that the calcium might interfere with absorption of eltrombopag but I guess as long as I keep them well apart in time it will be ok. I am also concerned about the tendency of alandronic acid to cause heartburn as I get this easily. I thought as a big cheese eater my bones would be stronger. I have only taken steroids very briefly and ineffectually for itp.

I take Lansoprazole the night before Alendrotnic acid and in the morning after taking it. Keeps my heartburn at bay. So long as Adcal is at least 4 hours before or after Eltrombopag it shouldn't cause any problems. Take mine with breakfast and tea then Eltrombopag about midnight.

There are studies that suggest that Vitamin D, Vitamin K2 and Magnesium are good for bones. I've taken those for years.
