I have been on Revolade (100mgs) for almost 2years and my counts were steady and then slowly dropped. I have IVIG transfusions aprox every five weeks this is because the counts slowly drop to under 20K (all this while on the Revolade) This has been standard for the two years. However my counts went from 29K last week to 40K this week (no IVIG in the meantime) The only change I can see is that I had a course of antibiotics through having dental work done. Would this account for the rise or is it just one of those quirky things about ITP.
ps I am not complaining and does any one understand this - what I have written and why this happened.

I've heard of counts going up after antibiotics so it's possible. It could also be coincidence (sorry). ITP is quirky as you said! I wish I had a better answer for you!

Christine, I think you hit the nail on the head associating counts with antibiotic treatment. Was the antibiotic Amoxicillin, or ?

Let me take a wild stab in the dark. When you get IVIG your counts don't get as high as 200. They only go up to 70-90, and then slowly fall. Yes? Also, steroids does nothing for you?

Yes that is exactly what happens. The antibiotic I had was Amoxicillin. The only steroids I have is a shot of them before having IVIG. - I won't take prednisone as I was on it for many years and it really messed with my mind and body.

Ok. I guess you used to have somewhat of a steroid response. Useful enough so that the doc would prescribe it often.

I'll take another stab in the dark and suggest low dose Danazol (50mg) to get rid of that regular IVIG treatment. With some luck, might even drop the Promacta dose given some time for it to work. The partial response to IVIG is indicative of two antibodies at work. The antibiotic count rise is indicative of row 1 in my ITP table and the long IVIG response is indicative of row 3. Just a guess.

Can't believe it - this week my counts went up to 46K from 40K and I have been off antibiotics for over a week. So I am cautiously optimistic. Let's see what next weeks blood test reveals. I was right Sandi, it is a quirky disorder!!!
