ITP and rashes

I have had low platelets since around 2012. I have noticed that I get a “t-zone” rash on my face which comes and goes. I get red, flaky spots with little bumps on each side of my nose and on my forehead right between eyebrows. I am curious if anyone here has similar experiences. I’ve heard if the Lupus butterfly rash, but I don’t think that’s what it is, though I also can’t rule it out.

My counts have ranged from a 47 to 151. They go up and down all the time. I am suspicious of a correlation of the rash with the itp. I am also wondering if there is some allergy which could be ramping up immune system and affecting counts while at same time giving me the rash.

Any feedback is appreciated.

The rash could be almost anything. The best thing to do would be to see a dermatologist. Get photos of it in case it isn't there at appointment time. It could possibly be a Lupus-related rash but if you don't have any other physical symptoms, it's unlikely and wouldn't be treated anyway.

Your counts are pretty good!

Don't know if this is going to be of any help. In my case I had what is called 'seborrhoic dermatitis'. Likewise, when mine was bad it looked a bit like a lupus issue too. The difference would be that the dermatitis will have the look of some acne mixed in with it. As I understand for lupus, it is a uniform red color. This page helped me greatly in dealing with the dermatitis.

Best I can tell, getting rid of my dermatitis didn't affect my counts. I am 'row 3' and my counts change very little - almost ruler flat.

This is really interesting to me. My son’s ITP diagnosis coincided with appearance of what the doctors identified as (unrelated) en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keratosis_pilaris
It does seem like that’s what it is and is confined to his upper arms. Occasionally he gets a few bumps on his forehead. I have suffered from acne my whole life so it could be genes... but the emergence at the same time as ITP also has me wondering if there is a link.

Hmmm. I have those bumps on my foot. Never gave it much thought.

Lol, my youngest son has these bumps on both of his upper arms. No ITP, but it's good to know what it's called for future reference. :)
