Bruises when platelet level is at 120? was created by Hvagoodone
My platelet level is at 120 but in the last month I’ve been having issues with fatigue and getting bruises all over body . Dr thinks it might have something to do with my blood not clotting correctly. Was wondering if anyone has any information about this. Thank you.

My counts are in the 300's and every once in a while I get a bruise or two. They are generally small and I don't worry about them. I'm always tired, but that's probably my thyroid.

How bad are the bruises? Small yellow ones are not a big deal. Large black or purple ones could signify a problem unless you really bumped yourself.

Good to know, my doctor gave me the impression that I shouldn’t get bruises if my level was at 120. Thank you!

I wish it was from me bumping into something. I wouldn’t call the marks large, they range from a small red circles to a dollar size purple/ blackish color.

The strange thing is that I would get new marks about every 7-9 days and then after a few days some of them will get a yellow circle around them a day or two before they disappeared. After a day or so a new batch of 5-20 marks/bruises will come out. This has been happening for about 6 weeks and now the cycle is now happening about every 4-6 days

This is the first time that I’ve really had a problem since I was first diagnosed with ITP in late 2016, so I’m still in the learning stage. Thank you!

Are you taking any new exercise classes or dance or anything? My daughter had a permanent bruise on her leg and we discovered that it was from holding her leg up in dance twice a week. The pressure from her thumb did it.

Your bruises are the size of a dollar bill? Did I read that right?

People without ITP bruise too, although usually there is a reason for it.

Lol, sorry for the confusion, I meant dollar size coin. I’m not taking any dance or exercise classes and these bruises show up on my arms, legs, and stomach.

When I was diagnosed with ITP in 2016 my level was at 8 and they put me on prednisone for about 6 months. Three months ago my level finally went over 100 and then 4-6 weeks ago these bruises started coming out.

Has your doctor ordered coagulation factors workup? Clotting is a complicated process and platelets are just one part of it.

If there are no symptoms of autoimmune disease, I wouldn't worry about that. When I had symptoms, I knew it.

I saw my doctor today and it looks like coagulation factors isn’t the problem, so now I’m on to the next set of test. This week it’s a blood test called PFA-100 to check if my platelet are working properly and if they don’t find anything then the following week it’ll be another test of some type....

It’s starting to feel like I might be chasing a rabbit down a rabbit hole and it might just be better to accept the bruises. My doctors doesn’t seem to concerned since my platelet count is 100. If anyone has any information about if I should pursue this or just accept, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

It depends on your personality. I would be more anxious not knowing than knowing or trying to find out, so I would keep digging. I have dear friends who would go nuts if they researched as much as I do, and it can be argued that no amount of research will really change the outcomes. Having said that, if you're getting bruises, you're bleeding, and I would always want to reduce that. It doesn't sound like you're bleeding dangerously, so if you're comfortable living with bruises, that's probably safe to do.

Ok, that wasn't much help, was it? LOL. I am glad to hear you have over 100k platelets. Did you discuss with your doctor whether he would recommend any supplements (vitamins C, K, D...)?

this might help explain why i thought you should look into an autoimmune problem
