My husbands platelet counts have gotten lower over the past 12 years. In 2006 they were 250,000 and last week they were 82,000. Doctors in the past werent concerned, but his new Doctor is having him see a hematologist in a few weeks. My question has to do with this blood work. All his CBC tests over the past few years have been normal and the blood smear they did last week was normal. Does this sound like ITP? I feel like if it were cancer he would have symptoms and his blood work would be adnormal.

I know only the doctor can say for sure, but I was hoping for some reassurance.

Usually with lack of symptoms such as weight loss, fevers, lumps....it would probably be ITP. His counts are actually pretty good and he should not need treatment.

Welcome to the forum. My doctor only treats when a count is below 30K. When it is below 100K, she just monitors it with CBCs...Like Sandi stated 82K is a decent count.I had a count of 4K. The treatments I was given have put me back in remission.I hope things go well for your husband .
