I am in remission from ovarian cancer and finished chemo 18 months ago. Still suffer from muscle aches and pains. What drug will help this but not upset my platelets. (usually around 100K)
Thank you.

I'd check with your doctor. Every drug has the potential to cause a platelet drop even if it's not listed as a side effect. If it is listed, that doesn't mean it will happen. You need to use what works best for your particular situation.

I have questions about pain relievers also. My platelet count average is about 50. I have arthritis in my jaw from a previous TMJ surgery. Any suggestions since unable to take anti-inflammatories.

I'd suggest that you talk to your doctor too.

It can be difficult to manage other health conditions when you have ITP. I've been there. It's a benefit vs risk thing. I took the NSAID's regardless of platelet count, but that was me. There aren't many choices out there.

If I am having arthritis pain, I take Advil with counts above 20. I usually only take one pill for only one day- not several days in a row. From what I've read which may not be accurate, Ibuprofen will inhibit platelets for a while (48 hrs?) but then the platelets bounce back, they are not killed off. I don't tend to have any bleeding or bruising issues so everyone has to know their own risk factor, some people would bleed if they took Ibuprofen.
