Hi, My son, now 11 years old, has chronic ITP todate (3 years). His platelet levels were below 10K mostly last year but improved late last year to current at about 30K-40K. He currently has high fever and since we can't administer Neurofen or Ibuprofen (similar to Anvil/Aspirin), wondering what your advice is on handling ITP with High Fever for children? I do think it is virus rather than bacteria as his brother has a viral infection last week. Any advice or we should go back to the hospital for this. :(

  • ITP since 2014. Retired nurse. My belief is empower patients to be involved as much as possible in their care. Read, read, read & ALWAYS question medics about the evidence base they use.

Can he take Paracetamol? That should help reduce his fever.

Yep, I agree with Anne. Growing up as a child with ITP I was always given only Tylenol/Acetaminophen/Paracetamol for fevers or pains and it always worked fine for me without a platelet crash. Everyone tells me how much better Ibuprofen works for pains, but I've literally never had it because of my ITP, so I don't know what I'm missing :)

I hope he feels better soon!
