Heart disease was created by Sara
I was diagnosed with ITP 12 years ago. My platelet count is stable without treatment right around 30 to 60K. I still have my spleen.

Both of my parents recently have had triple bypass surgeries. Since my platelets are so few are my odds of having clogged arteries lowered due to the ITP.

I wish it worked that way, Sara. ITP can also be a clotting disorder so there is a slightly higher risk of heart attacks and strokes. I know it sounds odd, but newer research is showing that people with ITP can have a higher risk of thrombosis than the general population, even with lower counts. It's good to be aware of this and another good reason to keep your spleen, if possible.

"Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is classically characterized by a transient or persistent decrease of platelet count. Mortality is higher in the ITP population than the general population, with a possible association with increased cardiovascular disease (CVD)."
