Anyone here have, or ever had a high red blood cell count?
I'm an adult with ITP since 2008. I've had a high red blood cell count for a few years now not caused by low oxygen in the blood, sleep apena, heart/lung problems etc.), and my hematologist decided it was Polycythema Vera, so it's time for phlebotomy (Blood-letting!) to treat the high RBC. I'd heard (not from a reliable source) that Promacta can cause a high RBC. I discussed this with the my hematologist, and we decided to stop the Promacta and see what happens. (the Promacta was only getting me to a platelet count of +- 10,000 anyway). I stopped Promacta, on 11/29/17 and my RBC (Normal high at my lab is 5.8). Well, my RBC went from 6.08, 6.30, 6.16, 5.93, 5.70, 5.74, and 5.40 on 1/06/18. The Dr. decided to postpone the phlebotomy and keep an eye on my RBC. Circumstantial evidence certainly, but has anyone else experienced a high RBC associated with Promacta?

I've been on Promacta for almost 2 years and haven't had any problems with high RBC. Kind of interestingly, my red blood cell values tend to be on the lower end and Promacta causes anemia for me (beyond my normal tendency towards anemia from ITP related bleeding).

Interesting how different we all can be with regards to side effects. I hope you are to figure out what is going on with your RBC!
