Hey All,
Need some advice. I am currently on Nplate for the ITP. Finished my last Dexamethasone 40mg today. My Neurologist stopped by to look at my arm. In May I ripped my distal bicep tendon off the bone and the muscle and tendon rolled all the way up to the shoulder. They had to go in and put screws and buttons in to put it back together so I could use that bicep again. During the operation some radial nerve damage occurred. Been living with it for 5 months with just pain killers doing the wait and see if the nerve function improves. Surgeons recommendation. But all of a sudden on Tuesday it ramped up and is causing serious issues. Shooting pain, severe numbness, pins/needles pain (Nplate Side effect possible), and a little more motor disfunction.

They have ordered a Magnetic resonance neurography for the evaluation of peripheral nerve, brachial plexus, and nerve root to see if it is impinged in any way. They have also ordered an Ultrasound for the same thing. So hoping for progress.

My question to you all is....They want to put me on Gabapentin or Lyrica to control the nerve funciton and pain. I did not find a whole lot of research on the possible drug interactions. I found one page that I am not super confident(However it says the data is from FDA reporting) about but it says the combination of these drugs can nullify the effects of the Nplate.

Has anyone heard of this or had experience with this interaction?
Thanks

Troy:

I don't know about any interactions between N-Plate and Lyrica, but I have taken Lyrica and it was an absolute nightmare. I have Lupus and have chronic muscle and nerve pain due to inflammation. I've tried so many meds over the years and Lyrica came up several years ago so I decided to try it. I felt great the very first day. I couldn't even remember what it felt like to feel normal.....it was amazing. Then the side effects started. I was sleeping in and not getting to work on time. I began to be forgetful and unable to think straight. The side effects just kept getting worse. After about a month on the drug, I was driving home from work one day and didn't recognize where I was. I'd driven that route for 13 years; it was a 10 minute drive and I had no idea where I was. I was so panicked that I called my husband. I stopped taking it that day. The next day the withdrawal was so horrible that I thought I was going to die. Literally. I've read about the experiences of others and the side effects can be pretty bad. I'd seriously consider Neurontin before Lyrica.

If you want true life stories, go to askapatient.com and type in the drug name. You'll get to see some things that are not listed on the inserts. There are people who do okay with that drug, but for me, it was an awful experience.

Just been on 3 different health professional websites and none of them indicate any interactions with N Plate for either of those medications
