I'm sure this question has been asked somewhere along the lines but I'm thinking about getting a tattoo when my numbers are up, like right now I'm at 120 I gave birth at 50 and 30 so I think I could handle one just wanted to ask if there's any reason we shouldn't get one?

  • I was diagnosed at just three years old and have lived with ITP for 26 years. Doctors have often referred to me as the "exotic one" because they believe my case and experience with ITP differs from most. I am married and have a beautiful baby boy.

I think that's the most important thing to keep in mind is - that you're higher rather than lower! You know your own body and how it responds around different counts. I have a tattoo and didn't even think to check my platelet count prior to getting it (oops)!

  • Diagnosed in 2009. Spent almost a year with counts ~100 in 2015. Steady decline since fall 2016. Looking for ways to heal my own body with out drugs.

I have 10 tattoo's all after diagnosis When my counts were low below 50 it bled a little longer and took longer to heal. No other issues.

If your count is low you can bleed more.
Bleeding more does not cause the ink to fade.
Medications to suppress your immune system could put you at risk of infection.
Make sure where you go uses 1 time use needles and does not reuse/ sterilize. (cleaning and sterilizing is a technique that if not done right does not actually sterilize.
