RItuxan result guidelines? was created by Sandy Too
Hello all, just wondering after my Rituxan infusions if there is any norm with regard to how well the Rituxan infusions worked.
I had four infusions from Jan 9 to Feb 14. By the third infusion my platelets went from about 70/100 on 10mg of prednisone to 399/421on 7.5mg of prednisone. My platelets were 428 last week after my last infusion on 7.5mg prednisone.
I am of coarse I am thrilled with these numbers but wonder if this is the norm.
Someone mentioned my quick and high response indicated a long remission....
Thanks Sandy Too

Don't know if this answers your question, Sandy, but I responded to the Rituxan right from the first dose. In fact by the time I was due for the fourth infusion, I didn't think I would get it. I did, though. This was in 2011 and I have been in remission since. I don't know of any guidelines.

Sandy:

There is no way to predict anything. However, I think it looks really good for you! I never got that high that quick...only hit 150k and then actually went back down to the 60's, but did rebound on my own after that.

Wow! Since 2011 that is awesome!
This is the strangest disorder....and I do mean disorder. There is no rhyme or reason to why it shows up, when it shows up, how it is treated or how long any treatment might work if it does work at all.
For me that is what makes ITP so hard, it is all so unpredictable.
I live with several auto immune disorders which are not fun but at least they are quite predictable. It does not mean I know how to control them completely but I at least know quite a bit about what makes their symptoms worse. Which helps me to avoid the triggers and also what can at least help to settle or sort them out.
Sandi what did your numbers get to after Rituxan? How long and what are they now?
Thanks Sandy Too

My counts hit 150k after the four infusions, then started to go back down. It took 13 months before I had to treat again. I had one Rituxan infusion then, got serum sickness (again), then stopped. Counts went to 150k again, but dropped into the 60's after that. I didn't do anything and they slowly went back up. I have not had to treat since...this was in 2004 and my counts are now too high, usually between 300k and 400k.

Too high? What is too high?
I am at 428 which is considered high....I was hoping it is just an initial count so close after the infusions and all the prednisone the past year.
I think I read something about clotting though? Sandy Too

I don't like to be over 150k, but I can't control that. I've had APS antibodies, and heart attacks and strokes are more of a risk with Lupus so I'm not happy about the 300k to 400k. I take a daily aspirin (when I remember) but I'd rather have lower counts.
