Cured but still petechia was created by jclvsu
So I was diagnosed with ITP 6 years ago. I was on prednisone for 9 months and then had a spleenectomy. I have been fine ever since. I have been getting my platelets checked regularly. However, I still get petechia and I don't understand why. Im pretty fair skinned and sometimes (not always) if my legs itch a little (like coming from a hot shower or wearing tight pants) and I go to scratch them I get it. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this.

People can still get petechiae with normal counts. My husband once vomited so hard that his eyes were filled with petechiae. I get them if I sit cross-legged for a while. Petechiae are small broken blood vessels, so anything that cuts off circulation or disturbs the vessels in some way can cause them to break. People tend to notice them more if they've had ITP.

I'm a fair-skinned redhead and know that aggressive scratching can break capillaries and cause petechiae, even without ITP.
