Hello all, sorry I have been MIA. Got a second opinion with a different hemo- ITP confirmed, this time with a count of 100. So now, over the past 9 years I have ranged from 97 to 121 (that I know of anyway). Feeling angry, upset, frustrated, but also blessed. I have used this as an opportunity to put some things in perspective. Changed my diet, gave up alcohol, trying to get more sleep, and treating work like a job (and not life or death). Thank you for listening.

Glad to hear that you are making some positive lifestyle changes. That's always a good thing, regardless of what health conditions you may face.

I'd totally love to have counts like yours without treatment (I run 10 to 30 unfortunately). Those are pretty nice! As long as you are asymptomatic I'd say just hang out with those great numbers and don't treat anything! You are waaaaay above the safe range and almost normal.

Your counts are great! Try not to be upset...you're nearly in normal range.

Good that your count is at a decent level.

I'm trying to understand though why you are angry.

I'll tell you - my count of 93k on 10/27 didn't get an L (Low) behind the # from my lab. A count of 70k on 11/2 didn't even rate an L.

Why waste your time being angry & upset - what good does it do you? Life is too dang short to go around being angry over a good platelet count. Better to put that energy to something positive and constructive.

Hi Melinda, thx for the positive response. I am sorry of my post came across negatively. I do feel good about my numbers, but I think that anyone who finds out that they are diagnosed with a lifelong illness/ailment that requires ongoing monitoring goes through a period of anger. I am a health nut; never even took a drag on a cigarette. I work out, eat super healthy, and am meticulous with my health. But, as my post read, I also do feel blessed that it is not something worse. I will live, I will get to see my 2 little girls grow up, and I (god willing) will get to walk them down the aisle someday. I am moving past the feelings of anger, but I need to be honest with myself and admit that there is still some there. It sucks not feeling invincible anymore like I did before being diagnosed. Thx for listening.

Kean:

Never assume that it's lifelong. Your counts could shoot up at any time and stay there. Even people who fight low counts for years can have remissions. I'm one of them. I was on and off of treatment for 7 years, but have had remission for the past 10 years.

Even if it is, it really doesn't affect life much except for the monitoring. Most people with counts in your range eventually forget about it and just check once a year. I have known of people who had counts in your range and never dropped to treatment range.
