Bleeding some. after BM was created by Dori
This is my second relapse with ITP. I have started having a little blood on t-paper after a bowel movement. Is this a common thing in ITP? I will call my Doctors office tomorrow. I happened 2 days in a row a couple of weeks ago. I found out last Friday that my platelets are falling again. Then today, I had blood after using the bathroom again, so now I wonder if it could be related. The blood is bright red, not dark. If anyone has any info, I would appreciate hearing it.

I had the same thing and went to my doctor on Friday. He is sending me for blood work, which I get done tomorrow morning and a colon CT. Still waiting for that appointment. Normally I wouldn't be nervous about it, but I have the BRCA1 gene and I lost my dad to cancer last year.

Thank you for replying. I will be interested to know your results. This morning I thought maybe I would not call my Dr. office, but after your response, I think I will. The last time I had ITP was almost exactly 4 years ago. I was hoping it would never return. The first time I had it was Sept. of 2012. I was down to 12,000. My treatments have been lots of Prednisone. The last relapse, the Dr. said he would not do the Prednisone if I relapsed again. I think he is thinking Rituxan. ITP is certainly a frustrating thing. Most people I know had never heard of it. That is why I was happy to find this forum. I wish you the best.

Low platelets can cause that, but so can other things such as hemorrhoids. Best to check it out.

Hi Dori, had my blood work this morning and will get my results next week when we go to the doctor. Still waiting for the colon CT appointment. I do have hemorrhoids but they aren't bothering me right now. As Sandi said that could be the issue too. But with the BRCA gene, I don't want to take any chances. No bleeding since mentioning it to the doctor!

I'm watching this thread Cindy and hoping your count is good and you get a good report from the doctor next week! Yeah - always good to have something unusual checked out!!

I will. I haven't called yet. I only had a small amount on Sunday. If I don't have any more bleeding I may wait until I go back for my next blood check.

Bright red blood usually a sign that it is from a local spot. As Sandi said a hemorrhoid they can be outside and inside and not visable to the naked eye. The darker the blood the higher up it is coming from. Hence from your abdominal area it will appear black.


I always believe in when in doubt check it out attitude.

Well just got back from Dr.'s appointment. Blood work is all good; count is 355k. Still waiting to hear about the colon CT. I'll call the hospital tomorrow about that. Since seeing the doc about the bleeding, I haven't had any more. Go figure, eh?

Thank you all for your input. My Hematologist is on vacation, so I have not seen him yet. I have been going to the lab, & then talk to a nurse about my results. A week ago my platelets were 76,000. The week before that they were 89,000. I go back Monday to see where they are. I believe the blood was probably from a small hemorrhoid as was suggested. I have not had any more of that kind of bleeding. I am thankful for this forum. It is helpful to be able to read what others say & are feeling. Somehow there is comfort in knowing we are not alone.(although I don't wish ITP for anyone) May you all have a Blessed day. :)

Amen to "better safe than sorry" Cindy! Glad to hear the doctor's appt went well!

76k is a good count Dori - hope it is still up on Monday!
