Allergy shots for treatment? was created by DaveITP
Is anybody getting allergy shots for treatment? There have been some talk of ITP being caused by a constant allergic reaction to food or virius.
Also I saw on a newspost that the vika virius caused TIP for 9 people due to the immune system over reaction.

Yes, the Zika virus causes ITP. The one fatal case of Zika in the US the patient died, after the Zika had resolved, from severe ITP.

I have not seen any information on allergies to food or virus being a trigger for ITP. I am curious whether you have seen anything written on this. Also, what allergy shots would be used?

I can tell you that allergy shots triggered lupus flares for me and therefore I would not try it for ITP.

I remeber about one year ago that a study was started in the UK to look at food intolerence may trigger ITP in some people. I did see a post from some one (I can't find now) that he got an allergy shot and went into remission.
I was diagnoised in 2001 and did not seek treatment. My counts average about 50K. Empolyees I worked with complained about me bleeding all the time, I do auto upholstery and cut a lot. I needed dental surgery in 2012 and started treatment then. I ave been on and off presdone, took part in a clincal trial for Fostinahib, went down to 8K and was taken off the study. Tried N-plate and had a small stroke with some minor damange.
I am back on presdone and taking 81mg asprin a day, to protect from another stroke. Now i am bleeding all the time but I need to work for a livng.
I am grasping for straws this condition is flustrating.

Thanks for input and support

Dave do you have probable food intolerance? I had IBS-D for about 40 years and it got very bad, my intestines were in a constant inflamed state. I figured out, finally, that I had fructose malabsorption, changed my diet, and got my gut under control. I believe this has been a key factor in my remission from both lupus and ITP.

Dave could this be the thread you are speaking of - garylouisville is well respected here & he has been in remission a long time due to allergy shots

I'm finding this discussion very interesting. My ITP has been in remission for 15 years now (due to allergy shots) but five years ago I came down with the autoimmune disease ulcerative colitis. It was bad for the first couple of years until I finally paid for my own stool test which analyzed all DNA in the stool and it found a huge overabundance of that type of staph. The doctors were useless and could care less so I had to fight it on my own via natural treatments. Don't know if it was in my bloodstream or not. Anyway, my UC got much much better (close to remission) and earlier this year I retested my stool and the staph was totally gone. Still not in a total remission but I'm now doing very well. This thread makes me wonder if it is all related somehow but I don't beleive I had the staph during my bout of ITP.

I knew that Gary did allergy shots, but that was a long time ago. He is the only one that I've ever seen have a remission due to the shots.

He has been treating his UC with natural methods. I'm starting to believe that is the way to go. Instead of getting shots for food allergies, try to figure out what intolerances you have and eliminate those foods. I think it would be much more effective.

Sandi this thread where Gary mentions he is in remission from allergy shots was posted 6 months and 6 days ago it say. "My ITP has been in remission for 15 years now (due to allergy shots)". Unless I'm reading it wrong it sounds like he is still in remission & has been for 15 years due to allergy shots. He did not say if he is still doing the shots but he does credit allergy shots for his remission.

Ok, here we are misunderstanding again. I agree with everything you just said. I meant that his remission from allergy shots began a long time ago. I know that his post was fairly recent. Gary and I have kept in contact all this time so I am well aware of his status and timeline. I always know what I'm thinking, but I guess I don't write as clearly as I think.

I don't have ibs-d and can eat just about anything and a lot of it. I had my gaul bladder removed in January so my deit has changed but not that much. I think I should get an allergy test for food intolerance.

Thanks

Allergy tests will show food allergies, but not food intolerances.
