Well, I was hoping to never have to say THAT again, but I have a cold that has really knocked my platelets around, to the point where I'm symptomatic, which almost never happens. Friday my platelet count was 29K...not god-awful but down from the 50s.

Sunday I woke up with a black eye. And, to be blunt, pink snot.

I figured I better double check the platelets on Monday, and they were/are back to 27K, but I have to assume they dipped really low on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Then last night I noticed a few other symptoms (won't bore you, nothing horrible or gross). So today, I set the wheels in motion for "WinRho if counts are <35K on Monday". I have to travel the second week of January, and would prefer to be confident my count won't do anything crazy.

I haven't had to really worry about this for several years...I know that makes me lucky. Just have to keep reminding myself of that.

Hope you're sorted soon & can enjoy your travels.

Is it snowing there? I just shake my head when confronted with 'Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow' in the shopping centre only to emerge to a barren car park baking in 39 C degree heat! (102)

My platelet count was 34 this week - gradually going down after IVIG in March.

Hey MJ,

After 2 pretty brutal winters, mother nature is a bit timid this year. It snowed a bit this morning then turned to rain and washed the snow away. It's not uncommon for us (in Minnesota) to have lots of snow and cold by this time of year.

Wow, IVIG in March and your platelets are still hovering above 30K? That's pretty good for a "temporary" treatment. Is that expected or a surprise? I've never had IVIG, and frankly didn't even think about that....it might have been a better choice than WinRho, given the 8 hours of observation I'll have to go through if I have the tx. All I knew is that steroids were out of the question--I'd rather have the 8 hour wait and get on with my life.

I've had 3 IVIG, 1st for nose bleed, next 2 for surgery preparation, responded well each time (apart from an horrific headache next day) & counts gradually fell back to my 'usual' 30ish over several months. Yes, I am very fortunate.

Sorry you are having to treat! Winrho's not a bad choice! My choice of treatments! Here's to treating than not having to for a long long while!
