HELP! was created by XOALI91OX
My mother is diagnosed with itp
Lately her platelet count dropped to 32,000
And she was put on prednisone 20 mg
The first two weeks she was told to take 3
Times daily which was 60 mg
After she was done with that her platelets went up to 159,000
So her doctor told her that she was still going to be on 20 mgs
But that she was going to take only 40 mgs daily
For the next two weeks and then before she went to her appointment to drop down to 20 mgs
Daily until
Her next appointment on Jan 5.

So far this month of December she has been hospitalized for
Chest pain and lately her pulse rate has gone up and she continues to
Have chest pain everyday sometimes I feel like her doctor is not helping much at all because the last time we visit her she told
Her she could drink alcohol and I've read that alcohol is bad I feel like this doctor doesn't even care at all about her patients if anyone can help me or knows of a good hematologist in Houston tx I would definetly appreciate it if you let me know

Thanks

The doctor is doing the typical treatment for ITP. Most of us have gone through it. Prednisone can cause an increase in blood pressure and pulse. It can make a person feel wired. However, chest pain is not common and should be investigated.

Some people drink alcohol with ITP and some do not. Doctors opinions can vary.

If her counts are going up, the doctor is helping her. It takes time and Prednisone must be tapered slowly to avoid a platelet crash and also, because it is very dangerous to stop taking it suddenly.

Okay. It was originally in the very top Forum Information thread, so I moved it to Newly Diagnosed. I think there was some confusion over the report and we both took care of it.
