ITP with Mesenteric Vein Thrombosis was created by bjones
Hello. I am an adult male diagnosed with ITP 15 years ago (in my 40's), recently treated with Rituxan. In the last couple of years I have also been diagnosed with Mesenteric Vein Thrombosis (Clotting) and am also on blood thinners.

Is there anyone who has a similar situation?

Thank you, Bill J.

Have you been tested for APS (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) a clotting disorder which often goes along with ITP? How are your platelets now?

My clotting has been in my digestive system only (Portal vein etc.). My platelets are currently fluctuating and I was treated with Rituxan in Aug./'15 and IVIG 3 weeks ago when the plates were at 8. I will ask my hemo doctor about that syndrome.

Thank you,

Bill

There have been people here who have APS and have been on blood thinners while battling ITP. It can be a tricky thing to balance. I've read articles that state that at least 33% of ITP patients also have APA's (Antiphospholipid Antibodies). I have had the antibodies, but have no experienced a clot. The clots can occur anywhere in the body. It is diagnosed with a blood test.

I was just wondering....have you had a splenectomy? Portal thrombosis is known to occur following splenectomies.

I just thought of that too. We've had others here have portal vein thrombosis after splenectomy.
